Items we cannot accept

  • Electrical goods (ie anything that can be connected to the mains
  • Child safety seats
  • Children’s clothing with a draw string on the neck or hood
  • Prams, pushchairs, cots, cot mattresses, cot bumpers, carry cots, babyslings, children’s’ bicycles
  • Toys that are unsafe (eg with sharp edges) and do not comply to current safety standards
  • Knitted home-made toys
  • Cigarettes, tobacco
  • Pillows, duvets and eider downs
  • Drugs – prescription or any other form
  • Chemical products
  • Food and drink
  • Gas/oil appliances
  • Nightwear without a manufacturer’s fire warning label
  • Razors
  • Sharp knives
  • Weapons of any sort
  • Crash helmets, cycle helmets and riding hats
  • Exercise equipment without manufacturer’s instructions
  • Safety protective clothing or equipment
  • DVDs without a British Board of Film Classification
  • Video tapes

As policy this shop does not sell:

  • Donated batteries
  • Ashtrays
  • Fur
  • Ivory
  • Paint or varnish
  • Scissors
  • Skates
  • Skateboards
  • slides or swings
  • donated spectacles
  • unsealed donated toiletries and cosmetics
  • utensils with sharp points/edges e.g.,corkscrews
  • Any inappropriate literature, films or other materials

Knitting needles are available upon request

There are various pieces of legislation relating to the sale of some of the above items. Due to its complexity we are unable to guarantee compliance with this legislation, therefore Richard House shops do not sell the items on this list and regret that we are unable to accept them as donations.
