Urgent call for shop volunteers
Published: September 6, 2014
We urgently need more volunteers to lend a hand across our six shops in East London and Essex.
As part of the volunteer recruitment drive, our shop in Hornchurch and the newly refurbished Upminster shop will host coffee mornings for anyone who may be interested to come along for a friendly chat to find out more over a cuppa and cake with the existing shop team.

Hornchurch shop – 19 September 11am – noon
Volunteers are asked to work at least three hours a week, undertaking a range of tasks from sorting and steaming clothes to working on the till and tidying up the shop. Anyone over the age of 16 is welcome to apply and no previous experience is necessary.
Louise Hamilton, head of retail, says: “Our shops provide regular income that Richard House relies on to help provide care for local children and support for their families. We could not run our retail business without the support of our amazing shop volunteer teams. The shop volunteer role is suitable for all sorts of people, for example parents whose children have started school, people looking to improve their English or those wishing to gain some current retail experience for their CV to help get paid employment.”
“You need to be friendly and prepared to perform a variety of different tasks as no two days will be the same. It’s a great way to meet new people while gaining retail experience,” says Louise.
Pilar Ceron is a one of the volunteers at our shop in Hornchurch and has been helping out for the last few months. She says: “I think we are here to not just look after ourselves but to do good for others. I considered volunteering for some different charities and decided on Richard House because it is so important to support children.”
“I really enjoy it here because each day is different. I can be steaming, hanging or sizing and we have just been doing the seasonal changeover for autumn.”
“I am from Chile and have only been here for one year so this is also a great opportunity for me to improve my English.”
If you would like to find out more about becoming a Richard House shop volunteer please call into your local shop for an informal chat with the shop manager or contact Colette Murphy on 020 7540 0225 or email email@example.com
