We are delighted to share that our Social, Therapeutic and Resources (STaR) services manager Carol who has won a Leader Award from the Jack Petchey Foundation.

Kirsty, Head of Care, said: “She is the care team mother figure and always offers lifts to all the girls. She works many hours and none of us know just how she does it…she’s a bit of a super hero.”

Hayley, Play and Youth Facilitator, said: “Carol honestly is just amazing and I have never seen her refuse to help anyone! She goes above and beyond for people!”

Parents speak very warmly of Carol. How she is ‘there for them’, always makes them feel welcome, tries all she can to do the best for them and how ‘her kindness and professionalism has made a difference to their child’s lives’.

Carol was a teaching assistant in a special needs school for about seven years where she trained in working with children with complex health needs. Then, as her three children grew older, she looked for weekend and school holiday work and started to do bank shifts as a senior play and care worker at Richard House.

In 2017 she took up the post of care support worker, looking after families, arranging activities, trips, and the mums groups and providing tours for new families. She recently became Social, Therapy and Resources (STaR) Services Manager, responsible for carrying our STaR needs assessments, for both families and children, to assess where we can support and where we can signpost them for other support.  Carol works closely with our therapists, looks after students on placements at Richard House, as well as supporting families of older children through the transition to adult services and planning where we can have biggest impact with our work.

Well done Carol!
