Sir Trevor Brooking CBE, one of England’s most respected football legends hosted a Golf Day on Wednesday the 14th of October at the Royal Blackheath Golf Club to help raise money for children’s hospices across London (CHaL).

Sir Trevor, who grew up in nearby Barking, is renowned for his career at West Ham United and has been a patron of one of ChaL’s member organisations – Richard House Children’s Hospice for a number of years.

The fundraising event, organised with the support of ChaL’s corporate partner BlackRock, who have chosen ChaL to be their ‘’Charity of the year’’, has already raised over £750,000 with all the funds going to aid the work of ChaL’s network of 5 children’s hospices – Ellenor (Dartford), Haven House (Woodford Green), Noah’s Ark (Barnet), Richard House (Beckton) and Shooting Star Chase (Hampton and Guildford).

Through the generosity of Blackrock staff and clients, over £8000 was raised for the charity on the day.

Sir Trevor said: “I grew up in East London so Richard House is a charity close to my heart. I’ve seen first-hand the important work staff do, and the impact that has on families. Many people are not aware of how great the need for children’s hospices is, so it’s really important to highlight this.”

James Charrington, Chairman of BlackRock EMEA and Chair of BlackRock GIVES London said, “Responsibility is at the heart of our business, not only for our clients and employees, but in the communities where we work and live. We are delighted to be supporting such a worthy cause.”

“The raised funds will help provide specialist nursing care to children with life-limiting conditions, and much-needed emotional and social support to their families across London” says Mike Palfreman, Chief Executive of Haven House in Woodford Green.
