Richard House celebrates annual Volunteers’ Week

Last week (1-12 June) Richard House was celebrating Volunteers’ Week, an annual event which hails the contribution made by millions of volunteers across the UK.

The hospice has almost 150 volunteers, performing a wide range of vital roles at the hospice, from garden work and photography to receptionists and supporting family support events.

To celebrate their fantastic contribution, Richard House held a Rainforest Activity Day where volunteers and Richard House families could enjoy a variety of rainforest themed activities and as the week coincided with the Queen’s birthday, everyone also took part in a Queen-themed quiz, testing their knowledge of the royals.

The event was made even more special by the fact that it was run by Citi volunteers, who were kept busy throughout the day, running the different activities.

Volunteer receptionists Vicky Smith who has been volunteering at Richard House since 2011 said: “I really love volunteering here, it’s a really happy place and it’s nice to able to give something back to the community. I decided to volunteer at Richard House after my own family needed hospice services as it made me realise just how invaluable hospices are to the people who need them.”
