Abseil Takes Fundraising to New Heights!

Published: September 16, 2019

On Saturday over 35 people took on the challenge of abseiling down Broadgate Tower – one of London’s tallest structures at 540 feet. All to raise money for Richard House Children’s Hospice who support children and their families from East London and into Essex to lead as positive and happy a life as possible when dealing with a life-limiting illness.

This year the Richard House Abseil was proudly sponsored by MCA Trust who support children and families with brain related cancers in Essex and East London. The service they provide include respite care for the entire family, providing equipment to help with hospital treatment for children.

Thanks to our partnership and support from the MCA Trust, a children’s charity making a difference to children with cancer in the East London and Essex areas, the event has currently raised over £12,500 and will help ensure that we can continue to support life-limited children and their families..

MCA Trust Chairman, Keith Isaacs, said;

“We are really pleased to be supporting Richard House on this event. This partnership continues the work of Michael, after whom the MCA trust is named, following one of our core values to support children in the East London areas with life threatening illnesses.”

Those taking part included teams of people from Baker & McKenzie, Paul Robinson Solicitors, DoubleTree Hotels, Credit Agricole, Navigant and many other supporting organisations and of course, committed individuals.

One parent said:

For us Richard House offers essential support for our family and where [..] is included in everyday fun childhood activities. It’s an amazing thrill and I landed on the ground feeling a sense of accomplishment.

The support was welcomed by Richard House Head of Community & Events, Chris Williams;

The support today was incredible. Funds such as those raised today, underpin all we do and ensures we can provide the necessary support to children with life-limiting illnesses and to their families. The needs of the children and their families from around East London will always remain at the centre of what we do and so we are very grateful for all the support here today.

As a charity Richard House services are free of charge to the families supported and the majority of their funding is thanks to the generosity of the public. We are thrilled to be working in partnership with the MCA Trust, on what we hope will be the first of many ventures.

This year Richard House needs to raise £3 million to continue to deliver clinical care, therapeutic and residential services to life-limited children and young adults, while supporting their families through therapy and bereavement support.
