Volunteer retail assistant

What’s the role?

Richard House has seven busy charity shops. Each shops relies on the generosity of the local community to donate goods to sell and on teams of volunteers to keep the shops trading. The primary role of the Volunteer Retail Assistant will be to help the shop manager in the running of the shop. Your duties will include preparing donated goods for sale, assisting with window dressings and displays, assisting customers, operating the cash register, processing Gift Aid donations as well as general housekeeping and cleaning.

What skills do I need? 

The ideal candidate will posses good communication skills, be polite and respectful, will enjoy working individually as well as part of a team, will be punctual and reliable and be willing to learn new skills and get involved. Experience of shop work is preferred, but not essential, as training is provided.

How much time will it take? 

We operate on a flexible shift basis, with a shift usually lasting about 4 hours, or as agreed with the Shop Manager. At least one shift per week would be ideal to keep your skills up to date, and to assist the Shop Manager with the running of the shop.
